Sozinhos surf lodge

 

New to Asu and located on the northern tip of the island, right in front of the wave. Because of is position guests can watch the waves from their balcony which makes it special to Asu Island. Prices start at $75 USD per day per person sharing.

 

 

The wave

The wave at Asu is a left-hand reef break that can break perfectly for up to 200 meters. It’s a powerful, ‘freight train’ of a wave that breaks on all tides so 3 – 4 sessions a day is common. From gaping tube sections to long, rippable walls, Asu offers up something for average to expert surfers. It can be surfed from 3 – 15 feet so we advise our guests to bring a bigger board or two. In addition to surfing the amazing waves that break in front of Sozinhos surf lodge, there are a number of other great wave options around the island chain that we will access in different conditions

The island

Asu is a small island paradise just 30 minutes boat ride from Sirombu in Nias, off Northern Sumatra. It is the most northern of the 8 islands that make up the Hinako island chain. Due to it’s exposure, the swells that arrive throughout the surf season make it very consistent and it seldom falls below head hight. Because it’s off the beaten track it seldom gets crowded and at times you’ll feel like you’re all alone. Leave civilization behind, come enjoy the relaxed, chilled environment that our surf lodge offers.

 

Accommodations

The rooms are on the upper floor and have large private balconies and on-suite toilets and showers. The large windows throughout allow the cool island breeze to flow through the rooms. In addition to this, wall and ceiling fans are fitted which is sufficient to keep you cool throughout the day and night. Clean linen over comfortable beds allows the guests a good nights sleep for the upcoming days of surfing.

 

Food

The generous, healthy, meals served for breakfast, lunch and dinner include a variety of local and western food options. All meals are served to help sustain you for those long surf sessions. There is also snacks, tea, coffee, juice, smoothies, fruit

 

 

Other activities

Apart from the surfing we have rock and surf fishing as well as deep sea fishing. The abundance of fish and marine life in the clear blue water that surround these islands make the diving here some of the best around. Take a leisurely paddle by SUP or paddle ski around the island and explore the reefs from above.

 

How to get there

Guests fly in from Medan in Sumatra to Gunungsitol on Nias Island where an SUV will be waiting for them. From there it’s a 2.5 hour drive to Sirombu on the west coast of Nias. Our speed boat takes 30-45 minutes to reach Asu from there. As you approach Sozinhos Surf Lodge you realize you’re about to enter paradise.

 

Prices

Based on 2 surfers traveling together. $115 USD PER person sharing for a minimum of 10 days.  Includes : Accommodation, 3 meals per day, tea, coffee, water, snacks. Return taxi and boat transfers from the airport at Gunungsitoli, Nias Island to Asu Island and boat trips to other waves. If you want to spend longer than 10 days then pay only $75 USD per extra day.
